More CCTV cameras are on the way for Moreton Bay after Canberra gave $1.5 million to install them.
The funding deal was announced at council’s Leaders Forum 2025 on Friday by Federal MP for Dickson, Ali France. The event was attended by more than 250 people including 26 local, state and federal MPs.

Mayor Peter Flannery says council wanted more funding for the city’s CCTV network and was pleased by the amount that had been announced.
“Moreton Bay has already implemented one of the largest local government CCTV networks in Queensland,” he says.
“This very welcome announcement will expand our safety network so residents can continue to feel secure in their own home and public spaces.”
Flannery says that council has listened to community calls for a crackdown on vandalism and crime.
CCTV NETWORK
“Moreton Bay’s innovative CCTV network of more than 1800 cameras already helps police and council’s local laws officers respond faster to criminal and antisocial behaviour,” he says.
He points to Vehicle of Interest alerts that council gives to Queensland Police through its Licence Plate Recognition units.
“With more than 9400 automated real-time alerts sent to police in 2023, council’s initiative has played a pivotal role in managing unlawful activities,” he says.
“In fact, unlawful use of motor vehicles across Moreton Bay reduced by 4% between 2022 and 2023 while in other areas they experienced increases in vehicle theft.
“The expansive network also supports disaster operations and flood monitoring, protects council assets, deters vandalism and illegal dumping, and assists in the management of localised crime issues.
“Council takes a very strong stance on public safety, with CCTV infrastructure providing an important deterrent and a valuable tool to help police reduce incidents of local crime.”
MP for Dickson Ali France said everyone deserves to feel safe where they live.
“We know that community safety is an issue right across Moreton Bay, that people are concerned about,” the Strathpine-based MP says.
“It’s something that council has been talking to us about for some time.
“That’s exactly why we’re investing in improving community safety measures,” France says.
