With Australia excelling in sports, entertainment, science, health and well you name it just about everything, one area of our society seems to be in shambles. The political climate of Australia is messy, seemingly ridiculous and often a down right joke. With the federal election campaign underway, things are sure to get more rambunctious, so in recognition of that, NewsCop has put together a list of the worst gaffes by Aussie politicians in recent times.
Scott Morrison
Earlier this year current PM Scott Morrison was given a quick welding lesson when he was at the Specialised Welding & Engineering (SWEL). He was there to announce funding for the Indigenous Leadership and Governance package in the NT but decided to take off his welding mask for a better look at what he was doing.
John Howard
John Howard was PM for 11 years and while in office was met with mixed reactions by the public. A trip to Pakistan in 2005 saw the then PM partake in a game of Cricket. However, most could agree that his talent lie with politics and not as a bowler with the video below showing you why it’s easy to agree.
Julia Gillard’s husband
Although technically not a politician, Australia’s former first man, Tim Mathieson made some comments that were quite bizarre. He detailed that men seeking prostate examinations should look for “a small Asian female doctor” to perform it. Standing next to him was his partner, PM Julia Gillard, who no doubt was more embarrassed about that comment then her trip on Indian soil.
Tony Abbott
While the tragic downing of MH17 by Russian separatists made international headlines, so did Abbott’s comments about shirtfronting Putin. We wonder if Tony would still do this, considering what Putin’s up to at the moment?
Jacqui Lambie
The Tasmanian senator has swung politically from left to right but according to her, she’ll need that in a man as well. She described her ideal partner as “well off and well hung” but all power to her for knowing what she wants.
Kevin Rudd
Although Rudd did become PM, he got a little ahead of himself when he was Foreign Minister, detailing to the ABC that he was the PM. Don’t worry Kevin, all of us think we’re Prime Minister of a first world country when we’ve been jet lagged.
Clive Palmer
The United Australia Party leader is a billionaire, businessman, politician and dinosaur enthusiast it seems. Eight years ago, Clive Palmer opened “Palmersauraus” which houses over 160 replicas of extinct dinosaurs, for what reason, nobody knows but it’s “cheaper than going to Disneyland” according to Palmer with his theme park charging a family of five $100 entry.
Pauline Hanson
Arguably one of the most controversial politicians in Australia, the One Nation leader states she’s an Indigenous Australian because she was born here. Check out the video below to see her explain this to some Indigenous women in the NT.
Andrew Board
Board, Andrew Board believed himself to be the 007 of politics or at least that’s what he told a woman on a “sugar baby” website in Hong Kong. His dalliance on the website caused an international stir or at least gaggle, even making it to The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, as you can see below.
Barnaby Joyce
Barnaby Joyce had his brush with fame when he made now exes Johnny Depp and Amber Heard apologise for bringing their dogs, Pistol and Boo, into the country without declaration or quarantine. While Barnaby seemed to make a fool out of the famous pair, Amber Heard got the last laugh when she named her new dog Barnaby Joyce.
