The Queensland Government has provided 11 organisations with grants to address domestic, family, and sexual violence.
The grants are a part of the Safe and Diverse Communities Grant Program.
The program is aimed at addressing domestic, family, and sexual violence in culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) communities.
The Safe and Diverse Communities (SDC) Grants Program will assist projects that are led within the local communities to help increase the capability of CALD communities to recognise, respond, and seek to prevent domestic, family, and sexual violence.
Attorney-General and Minister for Justice Shannon Fentiman said the government has overall allocated $6 million to the grants program.
“We are ensuring no one gets left behind in our efforts to assist victims, raise awareness, and prevent domestic, family, and sexual violence.” Ms Fentiman said.
“This will help those in the community who are among the most vulnerable and isolated, while building meaningful partnerships and engagement with CALD communities around Queensland.” She said.
Ms Fentiman went on to say that the organisations that received funding are located state-wide.
Ms Fentiman said the selected organisations were chose strategically to meet the program’s overall aims.
“Funding was allocated to organisations that aimed to engage with cultural and faith leaders, develop awareness campaigns, and educate workplaces on how to engage with people from CALD backgrounds impacted by violence.” Ms Fentiman said.
“Projects also include educating health professionals on how to identify domestic, family, and sexual violence within perinatal women from CALD backgrounds, and workshops providing valuable education within a variety of CALD communities.” She said.
The organisations that were chosen to receive funding obtained between $10,000 and $25,000 in grant money.
A variety of communities were considered for the program, and funding was allocated between organisations that work with people of Polynesian, African, Indian, Asian, Middle Eastern, and Eastern European backgrounds, among other groups.
The organisations approved for the grant will be supported in delivering projects for a period of eight months within 2023.
