Two men have been charged with allegedly kidnapping a man and woman in Western Sydney in broad daylight.
The man and woman, aged 24 and 26, were forced into a vehicle by two men in balaclavas near Fairfield on January 18, 2023.
The man and woman managed to escape from a location near Raymond Terrace at around midnight on Friday and contacted a family member who then called NSW police.
According to NSW police, the man’s finger was severed during the kidnapping, and the pair were taken to John Hunter Hospital for treatment.
After homes in Smithfield and Cartwright were searched on the 4th of April, two men, aged 24 and 25, were arrested.
The men face multiple charges, including two counts of take or detain in company with intent to ransom occasioning actual bodily harm.
The older of the two has also been charged over another incident, where a Molotov was allegedly thrown at a home in Bossley Park on the 22nd of January.
The two were refused bail at Fairfield Local Court earlier this month and are due to appear before Parramatta Local Court on the 1st of May.
This incident comes amid other recent kidnappings across Sydney, which police say are linked to organised crime gangs using people to extort money.
