Authorities have issued safety warnings after a 22-year-old woman fell off a cliff on Phillip Island while trying to take photos for social media on Sunday.
The woman is alive, and was rescued by air ambulance at Pinnacles Lookout, Cape Woolamai.
Two of the woman’s friends were her and were able to climb down the cliff and wait with her until emergency services arrived.
Dave Fyfe, Bass Coast Acting Police Inspector, said the woman had multiple fractures but that none of her injuries were life threatening.
“She’s in hospital now, they’re not fatal injuries but they’re still pretty serious,” Fyfe said.
“I don’t mean to make light of what happened to her but I’m certainly hoping the lady makes a full recovery.
“The fact is, physics doesn’t come with a selfie clause and gravity’s a one-way trip.”
Fyfe also said this incident was a reminder for people to be cautious while at the popular tourist spot, particularly as the coming warm months will attract more visitors.
“She walked off the walking trail and unfortunately she’s taken a tumble down the cliff face,” Fyfe said.
“So where there’s tracks, stick to tracks, especially those people who might be visiting this area.”
