The Ashes series has been claimed by Australia as a pitch invader was arrested at the game held in Liverpool, UK, on Saturday (local time).
The Kangaroos won 14-4 win in front of a packed stadium with drama even before the game had started.
In a statement, Merseyside police confirmed that they had arrested Daniel Jarvis, of Kent, at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.
Police say he has been charged with obstruct /disrupt a person engaged in a lawful activity and had been remanded into custody to appear at Liverpool Magistrates Court today (Monday).
Jarvis reportedly made his way onto the field and past security to join the Kangaroos players as they lined up sing the anthems of both countries.
FIERY START TO ASHES CLASH
The rugby league Test got off to a fiery start with a fight after just two minutes which saw two players sinbinned: Kangaroo Tino Fa’asuamaleaui and Englishman Dom Young.
A Nathan Cleary penalty opened the scoring. 2-0.
England’s Harry Smith levelled the score with a penalty goal in the 8th minute. 2-2.
In the 24th minutes, Cleary kicked another penalty to make it 4-2; England levelled in the 38th minute with another penalty to Smith to go into halftime ties at 4-4.
In the 48th minute, Cameron Munster scored for an unconverted try. 8-4.
In the 52nd minute, Hudson Young scored a converted try. 14-4.
Afterwards, Munster was named player of the match.
Australia meets England again in Leeds next weekend to wrap up the three-test series.
The Kangaroos have held the Ashes since 1973 and are aiming for the first clean sweep since 2003, NRL website www.nrl.com.au reports.
OTHER INTERNATIONAL RESULTS
England’s wheelchair rugby league team have won both of their Ashes games against Australia (the Wheelaroos). The English visitors won the first Test 56-28 and the second Test 48-42.
In the Pacific Championship men’s final, New Zealand will meet Toa Samoa in Sydney after thumping Tonga 40-14 in Auckland.
In the women’s final, the Jillaroos will meet New Zealand again this weekend in Sydney after a 10-4 win over the Kiwi Ferns in Auckland.
