Qld police have seized more than 240 electric ride devices and issued almost 1000 fines in just one month.
Since Operation Yankee Surety started on July 1, police say they targeted dangerous behaviour and illegal devices.
So far, officers issued 991 fines, seized 249 illegal e-devices, carried out 331 roadside breath tests and charged 24 riders with being drunk.
Qld Police’s acting Deputy Commissioner Rhys Wildman says police will continue to enforce new e-mobility road laws.
“One month into Yankee Surety, we’re still detecting riders using non-compliant devices, failing to wear helmets, speeding, and riding under the influence of alcohol,” he says.
“We thank Queenslanders who have taken the time to understand the new rules and play their part in keeping our roads and pathways safe.
“Safer roads start with you. Every decision you make behind the wheel or on an e-mobility device matters.”
Operation Yankee Surety will run until June 30, 2027.

NEW QLD LAWS THAT KICKED IN
- Police can seize illegal devices.
- Roadside breath tests for the riders of e-bikes, bicycles, e-scooters and other personal vehicles with a 0.05 blood-alcohol content (BAC) limit applying.
- Devices faster than 25km/h will be banned; e-bikes will need to be pedalled by the rider to travel faster than 25km/h.
- 12km/h speed limits will apply on footpaths and when passing pedestrians.
- E-scooters, e-skateboards or e-unicycles can be ridden on roads, including bike lanes, with a speed limit of up to 60km/h. Riders can only go as fast as 25km/h.
- Parents/guardians will be fined for under 16s caught riding illegal devices.
NEW ONES KICKING IN
- From August 31: riders must be 16 years-old with a licence but some exemptions will apply.
- From February 28, 2027: compliance labelling for e-bikes (EPACs) will be mandatory.
More information about the exemptions will be available from the Department of Transport and Main Roads after August 31.
