Jetstar is adding extra capacity on direct flights from Hobart to Newcastle and Adelaide with some extra off-peak services.
Hobart Airport says seasonal flights to Newcastle (October 27-April 24, 2027) will feature a 27% boost in capacity, up by 6000 seats to more 28,000 seats over the inaugural season last year
It’s chief executive officer, Norris Carter says the expansion strengthens Tasmania’s connection to the Hunter region with its population of more than one million people.
“Adding 6000 more seats and extending the season by more than a month gives Tasmania’s tourism and hospitality businesses greater opportunity to welcome visitors outside the traditional peak period,” he says.
He says the extra seats were secured with funding from the state government’s Aviation Attraction Fund.

Jetstar has also added two extra weekly flights on its Hobart-Adelaide route, now up to six weekly flights in off-peak travel periods and daily during peak travel like school holidays
“This adds 17,624 additional seats between October and April, an increase of more than 40% on the seasonal route,” Carter says.
State Tourism Minister Roger Jaensch says the service extensions will directly benefit Tasmanian business by bumping up visitor numbers.
“Improving air access to Tasmania is vital to growing our visitor economy and ensuring more people can experience everything our state has to offer,” he says.
The Hobart-Newcastle seasonal service will operate three times a week (Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays) with fares starting around $109 (one-way).
The airport’s arrivals area has been enlarged by an extra 800 square metres with a 85-metre U-belt baggage carousel installed and a forecourt.
The airport is working on a $200 million project to expand its terminal facilities and now hosts international flights.
Hobart Airport is also working on plans for a new on-site hotel on the corner of Holyman and Grueber Avenue
It says the hotel will help them cope with current passenger growth of 4.9% by providing convenient accommodation close to the terminal.
