Road projects worth nearly $3 billion for Western Sydney roads have been signed off by the NSW and federal governments.
Construction is expected to start later this year, the NSW Government says.
There are five projects that have been signed off. They are
- $1 billion for Mamre Rd Stage 2: Gamuda BMD JV will upgrade 6.1 kilometres of Mamre Rd by converting a single lane road into two lanes between Erskine Park and Kerrs roads at Kemps Creek.
- $1bn for Elizabeth Drive: Gamuda BMD JV to widen the road to two lanes in each direction between Devonshire and Badgerys Creek roads.
- $440 million for Garfield Rd East: Fulton Hogan to widen it to two lanes each way between Piccadilly Street, Riverstone, and Windsor Rd, Box Hill.
- $247m for Henry Lawson Drive Stage 1B: BMD Constructions to build 1.8km of dual carriageway between Auld Avenue, Milperra, and M5 Motorway.
- $190m for The Horsley Drive: Ward Civil & Environmental Engineering Pty Ltd to widen a 650-metre stretch to two lanes in each direction between the M7 Motorway and Wallgrove Road at Horsley Park.
OTHER ROAD PROJECTS IN THE PIPELINE
The government says consultation is also open on Spring Farm Parkway Stage 2 project while designs for the Windsor Rd Upgrade at Rouse Hill and Picton Bypass will go on public display in coming months.
Planning approval has also been given for a $200m upgrade of the Homebush Bay Drive, Australia Avenue and Underwood Road intersection at Sydney Olympic Park and Homebush with work due to start next year.
The work will involve replacing a roundabout with a signal intersection and more lanes to improve traffic flow and safety to manage the nearly 5000 vehicles an hour that pass during weekday peaks.
The Bandon Rd project is expected to be approved soon with the tender process under way, the government says.
Federal Infrastructure and Transport Minister Catherine King says the projects will prepare Western Sydney for the future by providing more capacity and reliable access to the new Western Sydney International Airport.
Deputy NSW Premier and Minister for Western Sydney Prue Car says the upgrades will mean “families can spend less time in traffic and more time together”.
NSW Roads Minister Jenny Aitchison calls it “an incredibly exciting time for Western Sydney”.
