A new NDIS plan management panel is on its way

The National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) will establish a trusted NDIS plan management panel from 1 October 2027, and participants will need to use a plan manager from it. The Agency says it is changing how plan management services are priced and designed. Plan managers who miss out on a place will no longer be able to deliver plan management services to participants once the transition ends in April 2028.

The dates to know

  • From October 2026: the NDIA is explaining the expected changes, including how they may affect participants, plan management businesses and other providers.
  • From April 2027: an approach to market for the NDIS plan management panel will be published on the NDIS Engage website. Plan managers who want to join must apply through it, and it will set out the requirements for selection.
  • From June 2027: the approach to market closes. The NDIA will assess applications and tell providers whether they are on the panel.
  • From October 2027: the panel launches and a six-month transition begins. If a participant’s current plan manager is not on the panel, the NDIA will support them to move to one that is.
  • From April 2028: the transition ends. Participants must use a plan manager from the panel, and plan managers outside it can no longer deliver plan management services.

Why the NDIA says it is making the change

The NDIA says the changes will make it easier for participants to pay providers and manage their NDIS funding. They are also meant to strengthen how the Agency detects and addresses fraud and participant safety concerns, and to make sure providers are only paid for services delivered to participants.

What stays the same

Plan managers on the NDIS plan management panel will continue to play an important role in supporting participants to manage their NDIS budgets.
