Centrepay changes mean some people need to arrange a new way to pay their bills.

Centrepay changes 2026: what they mean

Centrepay changes 2026: from 1 November, some goods and services can no longer be paid for through the scheme. The changes came at the end of a 12-month transition period that began in November 2025. Since 1 November, some people’s Centrepay deductions have stopped because the type of goods or service they were paying for is no longer covered.

What’s no longer covered

Services Australia has removed these categories from Centrepay:

  • social and recreational commitments
  • household goods lease and rental, unless bought through a No Interest Loan Scheme (NILS)
  • funeral expenses
  • basic household items
  • motor vehicle registration
  • employment expenses
  • savings

Some specific goods and services have also been removed, including self-storage, fuel and items from butchers.

What to do if your payment stops

If you used Centrepay to pay a particular bill and your deduction has stopped, contact the business directly to arrange another way to pay. The business may also get in touch with you about the change.

Where to get help

If you need help with your Centrepay deductions, you can call Services Australia on your regular payment line or visit a service centre. Services Australia’s website also has information on no-interest loans, financial help and other ways to manage your money.
