An artificial riding surface and 80 new stables are among proposed design changes for an upgrade of the Queensland State Equestrian Centre (QSEC) in Caboolture.
Moreton Bay City Council says the changes are part of a design that is being drawn up to upgrade QSEC to international standard.
This would improve its capacity to host major equestrian events at local, state, national and international levels, council says.
Moreton Bay City Mayor Peter Flannery predicts the planned upgrades can serve as a game-changer for the city’s equestrian community and tourism economy.
“This process will help shape what an international-standard QSEC could look like and will be a crucial step before any decisions are made for future investment,” he explains.
He also revealed that an equestrian panel is involved in advising during the design process.
KEY FEATURES
- 80 new permanent stables to raise the venue capacity to 238 stables.
- International standard synthetic surface
(four full-size dressage arenas and a warmup zone). - 94 new onsite powered camp sites.
“QSEC already attracts significant events to Moreton Bay; these potential upgrades could take that economic impact to the next level, especially in the lead up to Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games,” Flannery says.
Councillor Adam Hain (Division 3) is excited by the prospects for their growing equestrian community.
“Equestrian sport has very specific requirements.
“We want to make sure we’re meeting the needs of those who use QSEC today and into the future,” Cr Hain says.
“This upgrade will open the doors for QSEC to host top-tier events like World Cup Jumping, FEI international competitions, and Para Equestrian events — maybe even the Olympic and World Equestrian Games qualifiers.”
The design is due to be finalised in 2026.
- The centre is also due to host the Queensland Showjumping Club’s week-long Festival of Showjumping on Friday, June 20.
