COUNCIL NEWS
Swan Hill (Victoria)
The rural city council’s acting Director Corporate Services Peter Brown says council is required to prepare a long-term financial plan to spell out funding for its Council Plan.
The closing date for comments about the plan is Friday, August 8.
“Our financial plan will allocate funding for major initiatives based on priorities identified by the community … and ensure long-term funding for essential services,” he says.
Mayor Stuart King says the plan is vital to council services and infrastructure while maintaining financial sustainability.
“Our financial plan sets the foundation for how we manage resources responsibly over the next decade,” he says.
“It ensures that we’re planning ahead, living within our means, and investing in the projects and services that matter the most to our community.”
Cr King wants residents to have their say via a short online survey.
“We’ve heard what’s important to you via our engagement sessions; now, we’d like you to prioritise these via our survey,” he says.
“Our survey includes an interactive activity in which residents can allocate funding to the service[s] that matter the most to them,” Cr King said.

INDUSTRIAL LAND USE
Meanwhile, council’s industrial land use strategy will review and plan future industrial growth across the municipality.
Council is also inviting comment from residents, businesses, and stakeholders on the Industrial Futures Discussion Paper, which outlines potential sites for rezoning to industrial use.
Michelle Grainger, council’s Director of Development and Planning, says the strategy is a vital step in shaping the region’s economic future.
“We’re committed to ensuring Swan Hill has a well-planned supply of industrial land that meets the needs of enterprise, industry, and our community,” she says.
“This strategy will provide clarity and direction for industrial land use and development, while ensuring new projects contribute positively to the amenity and environment of Swan Hill.”
Four sites have been identified for potential rezoning to industrial use and council wants residents’ thoughts on the suitability of these sites, or any other locations.
“We want to hear from the community and stakeholders to help guide this important work. Your feedback will help us plan for the next 15 years of industrial development in Swan Hill,” Ms Grainger added.
