A new floating dock for Balranald and a host of wharf and ramp upgrades are among boating projects that have been green-lit for NSW Government funding.

The state government says 46 out of 75 applications for grant funding were approved under a $23 million boating infrastructure grant program.

Regional Transport Minister Jenny Aitchison says the funding is all about improving boating facilities to “support tourism, local jobs and long-term economic growth” in regional NSW.

Executive Director NSW Maritime Mark Hutchings says “boating is a vital part of life in many NSW communities”.

“This program ensures that we’re investing where it counts, at the local level.

“These projects will support recreational and commercial users while strengthening local communities.”

BALRANALD DOCK AMONG APPROVED PROJECTS

Among the approved projects are $137,369 for the design and construction of a new floating dock to replace the current one at Balranald Caravan Park on the Murrumbidgee River, southern NSW.

The biggest project involved $2.3 million for Kempsey Shire Council to upgrade Matty’s Flat Reserve on the Macleay River. The work will involve doubling the current two-bay boat ramp capacity with access pontoon, an extra 44 car park spaces, a new amenities building and a new boardwalk/fishing area.

Other significant projects to be funded include:

  • $1.7m to upgrade Belmont Public Wharf for better access to Lake Macquarie.
  • $1.5m to upgrade Ulladulla Southern Harbour’s boat ramp with longer ramps and better access to vessels with better launching and retrieval.
  • $1.5m to upgrade Mackerel Beach Wharf for all-tide access, better disability access and greater safety.
  • $1.2m to upgrade the Lintern Street Wharf and Boat Ramp in Davistown for better access to Brisbane Water (Central Coast).
