New home owners in NSW wanting to buy a new design for just $1 have until the end of January to do so.

The NSW Pattern Book is offering the price for eight architect designed low-rise home templates until January 31.

After that date, the price will rise to $1000 for the templated designs.

Planning Minister Paul Scully says the there is a shortened, 10-day approval process for the designs.

“If you’re looking at building your own home the low-rise Pattern Book designs will make the process easier, faster and more affordable,” he says.

“These pattern designs give families and builders access to high-quality, architect-designed homes which are easy to build, sustainable and adaptable for different family sizes and housing needs.”

NSW Government Architect Abbie Galvin claims the pattern book offers “practical, sustainable designs that integrate into diverse neighbourhoods”.

HOME APPROVALS

The government says that since the book’s launch last July, more than 21,000 designs were bought with approval given for construction in Gymea, Cronulla, Corrimal (Wollongong), Engadine, Chipping Norton, Carlton and Baulkham Hills.

The government says a low-rise pattern designed house could be fast-tracked for approval in as little as 10 days.

The book also added nine mid-rise designs by leading architects from across Australia and New Zealand last November for 3 to 6-storey apartment buildings.

The mid-rise designs are available for $1500 for small lot and corner lot designs, and $2500 for large lot designs until May 31.

The government also says that designs have been sold in 24 countries.

It also says construction has begun on a row of seven Pattern Book terrace homes in Edmondson Park, south-west Sydney: they are due for completion in early 2027.
