GRNSW REJECTS $10m COMPENSATION OFFER

Meanwhile, GRNSW says it has rejected a compensation offer from the state government over Wentworth Park next year.

The government had offered $10m in extra Capital Grant Funding to upgrade country tracks over four years based on them not pursing a $6.5m debt owed by the Wentworth Park Trust, GRNSW says.

“The offer of compensation was just ridiculous and insulting to the sport,” GRNSW chief executive officer Steve Griffin says.

“They say they support greyhound racing; however, the actions of the government to date says otherwise.”

GRNSW believes the cost of leaving Wentworth Park will hit $43m over 10 years and Griffin says the offer “goes no way” towards amounting to proper compensation.

“Giving us $10m in tied capital grants over the next four years is simply ridiculous when we know the government wants all our tracks upgraded to minimum track standard within the next two years.

“We don’t want taxpayer money. We want the money that we’ve worked hard for. It’s as simple as that,” Griffin says.

He also wants NSW Premier Chris Minns to step in.
