ENVIRONMENT FUNDING GRANT INVITATION

Council says community groups have until March 31 to apply for grants of up to $50,000, to protect the environment. Applications close at the end of the month for projects that must start on or after June 1 and which must be completed within 12 months of the start, council says. Flannery says $186,000 in funding was allocated to six projects in the last financial year. Friends of Parks Queensland used a $33,993 grant last year to establish the Friends of Sheep Station Creek network to encourage nature volunteers and strengthen ties between volunteers, experts and council. The group conducts weed control, wildlife monitoring and training. A Sheep Station Creek Conservation Park of more than 200 hectares set up by the group provides habitat for endangered greater gliders and Koalas. Click here to find out more from council.

New Zealand-based Pultron Composites has won Moreton Bay Council’s $1 million Ultimate HQ headquarter competition. Their prize includes five years free rent for a headquarter space, $250,000 for fit-outs and support from competition partners such as Telstra, Westpac and Innovate Moreton Bay. The company says their new headquarters can serve as their permanent Australia base for corrosion-free reinforcing bars and mesh, and structural bends. The competition attracted entries from six countries and a field of applicants worth over $500m in potential capital investment. “The calibre and diversity of companies we welcomed this week shows Moreton Bay is fast becoming an investment destination of choice in South-East Queensland,” mayor Peter Flannery says. Bay residents have until March 29 to let council know what they think in a Moreton Says survey. “We want to know your thoughts on liveability and lifestyle, local jobs and business support, disaster preparedness, sport and recreation, and your experience with council,” Flannery says. “Previous surveys highlighted improvements to how we communicate disaster preparedness with residents saying they are willing to prepare but not always sure how.” He says the survey data allowed staff to rethink how they shared hazard risks and household preparation tools. “These messages are vital, with more than 30% of survey participants telling us they accessed information on natural hazard risk before moving to City of Moreton Bay.” Click here to complete the survey here and go in the draw to win one of 20 Moreton gift cards valued at $100 each.
