A new base for Rockingham’s veterans
The Goldsworthy Centre at 1/65 Dixon Road, Rockingham, opened on 22 October 2026. Run by RSL WA as the region’s Veterans’ and Families’ Hub, it was funded by a federal government grant of more than $5 million.
The centre is named after Lieutenant Commander Leon Goldsworthy, Australia’s most decorated naval officer of the Second World War and a long-time Perth resident.
In an opinion piece marking the opening, Veterans’ Affairs Minister Matt Keogh said the centre would offer mental health and wellbeing support, expert advice on housing and on claims for treatment and compensation, and opportunities for social connection. RSL WA adds physical rehabilitation, chaplaincy, advocacy, veteran transition services, and social and recreational activities.
Who can use it
The centre is open to current and former Australian Defence Force members, along with their families and carers.
Why Rockingham
Nearby HMAS Stirling, Australia’s largest naval base, has more than 4,100 employees, and the Department of Veterans’ Affairs says more than 8,000 veterans and families live across the Southwest Perth region. The hub is part of the $46.7 million the federal government committed in the October 2022 Budget to expand its national network of Veterans’ and Families’ Hubs.
