“The response was overwhelming with many customers advising they had missed drinking Maleny Dairies milk since being diagnosed with an intolerance to dairy,” said Maleny Dairies. Source: Maleny Dairies.
Maleny Dairies is filling a gap in the dairy market and has now introduced a new Lactose Free product they say is identical in taste to full cream milk.
According to Maleny Dairies about five per cent of Caucasian and 75 per cent of non-Caucasian Australians live with lactose intolerance.
With this in mind, the dairy farm reached out to their customers and found that there was an overwhelming demand for a lactose-free milk alternative.
Speaking with NewsCop was Maleny Dairies representative Tanya Alison who said that they approached consumers in May this year, asking them the specifics of what they wanted in their Lactose Free Full Cream Milk.
The dairy company asked customers if they wanted 1.5L or 2L bottles, full fat or skimmed and the most important question, whether they would buy it.
“We did a number of test batches as well as counter tests to get the right consistency and taste of the product we were after,” she said.
From this insight they created their Lactose Free Full Cream Milk, which is pasteurised, homogenised and the first product of many to come says Chief Executive Officer Stephen Tait.

“We are very excited to be bringing this quality product to the market, allowing all consumers to enjoy the great tasting milk that Maleny Dairies has to offer.”
While there already is a big market for Lactose Free milk, Maleny Dairies says that they’ve got an edge because their product tastes like full cream milk.
“Often lactose free milk tastes significantly sweeter, similar to that of the milk at the bottom of a cereal bowl. We’ve managed to find a way to provide consumers with that real and fresh milk taste without the lasting sweet taste in the mouth,” said Mr Tait.
Chief Operating Officer Grant Galvin added that their lactose-free milk “pretty much identically mirrors our normal high quality tasting milk, minus the extra sweet taste”.
Their Lactose Free Milk is available at select Woolworths and IGA’s across south-east Queensland with hopes for expansion sometime soon.
