Authorities have arrested a man in Germany in connection to the disappearance of British girl Madeleine McCann who vanished in 2007 at a Portuguese resort.
According to several media reports, charges came at the request of the Portuguese government. In 2020, German police were investigating prisoner Christian Brueckner in relation to McCann, however it cannot be confirmed that he’s the man charged by authorities.
McCann vanished from the holiday resort of Praia da Luz in Portugal just before her fourth birthday in 2007. Extensive investigations have been conducted for the past 15 years; however, this is the first time police have made an arrest.
Madeleine’s parents, Kate and Gerry McCann have never given up hope on finding their girl, despite investigations seemingly leading nowhere.
“We hang on to the hope, however small, that we will see Madeleine again,” they said on what would have been her 18th birthday last year.
“As we have said repeatedly, we need to know what has happened to our lovely daughter, no matter what.
“We are very grateful to the police for their continued efforts. We hang on to the hope, however small, that we will see Madeleine again.
“Thank you for not giving up on Madeleine”.
Last year British police requested an additional $22 million in funding to help with the global search.
More details to come.
