The convenience store known for its $1 coffee and $1 slurpees is set to jack up the prices of the popular products as their current value is unsustainable.
It’s the first time since 2009 their coffee will see a price hike and from October 4 will go up from $1 to $2. According to 7-Eleven other products will also set to be more expensive.
“These prices changes are the result of sustained cost increase across the board which have made the existing prices unsustainable,” they said.
All large Slurpees will cost $1.50, while Iced Coffees and Hot Chockees are also set to increase to this amount. However 7-Eleven has said that despite these changes, the quality won’t.
“What will not change is the quality of our products or our dedication to improving the sustainability of our coffee and packaging. In the next few weeks we will be announcing some improvements that will reduce our environmental impact across the range.”
CEO and Managing Director Angus McKay added that although their prices will increase, it’s still better than most places where an average cup of coffee can cost up to $5.50.
“We will continue to provide our customers with great value and great quality, while ensuring our prices are sustainable for our store owners, our suppliers and our communities,” he said.
“Although this is the first price change in more than a decade, a single $2 gold coin for a regular coffee remains among the best value offers in the industry.”
One of the first environmental initiatives is offering a 50c discount for anyone that brings a reusable cup in store.
“We are always looking to enhance value for our customers, so coffee drinkers who bring their own reusable cup in-store will only pay $1.50 for a regular coffee,” Mr McKay said.
