A 25-year-old Brisbane man who was filmed being punched by a Queensland Police officer now faces drink driving charges along with other charges.
Police say the man was agitated and drinking when they arrived at the scene of a multi-vehicle crash in an intersection between Gympie Road and Samsonvale Road on the 22nd of June.
The man had allegedly been asked numerous times to remain in his vehicle, which had been damaged in the crash, but continued to try to get out of the car by kicking the door open into the officer.
Police said the officer used physical force to contain the man.
“Police will allege the man was drinking from a wine bottle and was under the influence of the substance,” a police statement said.
“After the officer attempted to take the bottle away several times, it was allegedly thrown towards him.
“The man continued to attempt to leave the car and after several verbal warnings, a Taser was deployed by police.”
The man then allegedly spat on another officer who arrived at the scene.
The man was charged with drink driving, obstructing police, assaulting police, and resisting a public officer. He is now still in custody at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital where he was treated for minor injuries.
The man is due to appear before the Pine Rivers magistrates court on the 7th of August.
