Australia’s southern states are set to be hit with damaging winds of up to 100km per hour over the coming days.
A series of powerful cold fronts are moving easterly from Western Australia.
It is expected to bring increased wintry conditions to southern states, including showers, thunderstorms, and damaging winds.
The cold air will produce small hail and highland snow in some areas.
The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a severe weather warning for parts of South Australia from Friday afternoon until Saturday night.
Damaging winds at an average of 55 to 65km per hour with peak gusts of up to 100km per hour are likely to descend across Eyre Peninsula, Kangaroo Island, and southeast coastal areas of South Australia on Friday evening.
There is a potential for strong winds to develop from Port Lincoln to Adelaide to Mount Gambier.
Conditions are expected to ease during Saturday from the west, but parts of the southeast may continue to see hazardous conditions into the evening.
The cold fronts are likely to cross the border of South Australia and bring these strong winds to parts of Victoria, Tasmania, New South Wales, and Australia Capital Territory between Friday and Sunday.
Regions that may face severe weather include the Blue Mountains and Illawarra coast in New South Wales and parts of central Victoria.
The State Emergency Service is advising people in these areas to move vehicles under cover and away from trees, secure loose items on the property, and stay indoors while conditions are severe.
