Detectives are investigating a suspected murder-suicide after a former couple were found dead in separate properties in Perth, Western Australia.
The body of a woman was found inside her South Guildford home on Thursday morning after concerns for her welfare were raised with police.
It is reported that she died from a gunshot wound to the head.
Within one hour, emergency services were called to a house fire in Innaloo, where her ex-partner’s body was found.
The two people have been identified as Georgia Lyall (32) and Luke Noormets (33).
It is believed that the couple separated a few months ago and were living at the addresses where their bodies were found.
WA Police detective inspector David Gorton said they were still investigating the incident, but it is believed that Noormets died from self-inflicted injuries.
“We’re just trying to piece it all together,” Gorton said, “At this stage we do not have any concerns for the wider community.”
Police believe Noormets made the call to emergency services before taking his own life.
Noormets is allegedly linked to the Rebels bikie group and spent several years in jail for crimes including torture and waterboarding.
Friends and family have expressed their shock over the circumstances of Lyall’s death.
She has been remembered as a “wonderful” and “loving mother” to her young son.
A friend paid tribute on social media writing, “You worked so hard for your baby and gave him the most amazing life full of love and memories, you deserved so much more than this.”
This marks the 28th woman in Australia to be killed by violence this year, according to group Destroy the Joint.
