A man with serious injuries was found lying on a footpath in Melbourne’s south-east on Thursday night.
A passer-by called emergency services after discovering the man next to Jamieson Street in Cheltenham.
The 34-year-old man was rushed to hospital.
It is believed that he is in a critical condition.
Police have said that the “circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear” as they continue their investigation.
Police received reports that the injured man was last seen on the balcony of a nearby apartment and that arguing was heard in the area.
Witnesses believe that he had fallen from the balcony onto the footpath.
A man and a woman have been arrested and interviewed by police.
The man and woman were allegedly in one of the nearby apartments and are currently assisting police with their investigation.
Meanwhile, a 76-year-old man was shot after answering a knock at his front door in an inner Melbourne suburb at around 7:50pm the same evening.
The incident occurred on Canterbury Road in Middle Park, around 15km north-west of Cheltenham.
The man was allegedly shot at his doorstep.
The other people inside the property at the time — two women aged 72 and 39 — were not physically injured during the shooting.
Police have confirmed that the man was taken to hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
“The male offender fled the scene on foot and was last seen headed towards Albert Park lake,” read a statement by Victoria Police.
