A disturbing social media post ranking female students’ appearances from Gold Coast Secondary school has sparked a police investigation.
The Instagram post, which has now been deleted, ranked female students into “vile and disgusting” categories from “abduction material”, “one night stand”, “average”, “preorder” and “unrapable”.
The Queensland Department of Education have also started an investigation into the incident.
“The department will conduct a full investigation into the incident of this vile post and any state school student found responsible will be held accountable for their actions,” said a Department of Education spokesperson.
The spokesperson said the school was made aware of the post on Wednesday, and acted immediately to have it removed.
“At this stage there is no indication the post was made by a member of the school community,” they added.
A mother of a 16-year-old female student who was one of the 17 girls included in the post said she was deeply disturbed.
While the original post has now been deleted, the material is still being shared and circulated.
‘It’s everywhere, people have screenshotted it and reposted it on their Facebook or Instagram,” the mother told ABC News.
“I just don’t know how people think that is OK to make up these categories and then put young girls in them,” she said. “It’s just horrifying.”
A similar incident occurred last month, where two boys were expelled, and others suspended from an elite Melbourne Private school for circulating a similar list ranking girls from “cutey” and “wifey” to “unrapable”.
Victorian Premier Jacinta Allan at the time labelled this “pattern of violence” and behaviour against women as “disgraceful”.
Queensland’s department of education has offered counselling to impacted students and families.
Foxwell State Secondary School encourage anyone with information on the incident to contact the school directly.
