Moreton Bay Regional Council is to spend more than $1.9 million on four new parks and playgrounds in Deception Bay, Griffin and Morayfield.
Moreton Bay Mayor Peter Flannery says the new parks will be open before the end of the year.
“Our city is experiencing significant growth so we are committed to delivering more parks and open spaces …” he says.
“Every new park is an investment in our city’s liveability and another step towards meeting the needs of current residents and supporting future growth.”
Councillor Sandra Ruck (Division 5) describes the new parks as essential infrastructure for the community.
“I’m excited to see this fantastic park being delivered at Billabong Place in Deception Bay,” she says.
“It will provide plenty of options for fun and play, relaxation, exercise, recreation, and meeting spaces.”
Councillor Mark Booth (Div 2) said the new park at Greenshank Court, Deception Bay, will be welcomed by families.
“This park will be a fantastic addition to the area, offering modern play equipment, picnic spaces, and plenty of shade,” he says.
Councillor Yvonne Barlow (Division 7) said a new park at Riverview Parkway, Griffin, will complement the natural setting of North Pine River.
“Covering almost a hectare, this park will offer something for everyone; from open green space and picnic spots to a shaded playground with equipment … including some all-abilities features.”
Councillor Tony Latter predicts that a new playground destined for Crowe Road, Morayfield, will be a hit with residents.
“Our parks reflect the character and identity of our neighbourhoods. I’m proud to be delivering new spaces that encourage outdoor activity and support the health and wellbeing of our growing community.”
Construction on Riverview Parkway, Griffin, is under way and expected to be completed by next month.
Construction work on the Greenshank Park, Billabong Place and Crowe Road parks are due to start by next month and finish by the end of this year, council says.
