A recruitment drive to fill 300 positions under the revitalised Queensland Train Manufacturing Program (QTMP) is now under way.
The state government says about 200 trade and 100 professional staff will be needed at the new Torbanlea train manufacturing plant once it starts operations in 2026.
The plant is located 25km north of Maryborough on the Fraser Coast.
Expressions of interest in the new roles can now be lodged live on the Downer Group’s website; job seeker sessions will be held on July 21-22, August 4-5 and August 18-19 at Maryborough.

The program has been boosted by a $4.8 billion funding boost under the new state budget.
Under the program, 65 new six-car passenger trains will be built at Torbanlea.
Hopes are that the first new train will start operations in 2027, with the rest to be in service by 2032 in time for the Brisbane Olympic and Paralympic Games.
MINISTER DALE LAST
Qld Manufacturing Minister Dale Last says that the program’s “jobs spree” includes a staged recruitment plan.
He says more workers will be employed as manufacturing activities at Torbanlea step up.
“Over the next year, Downer will be looking for boiler makers, mechanics, electricians, fabricators, painters and more, so my message to tradies is get your CV ready,” he says.
“The government is saving the program, and it starts full-steam ahead with this recruitment drive.”
He says construction on the Torbanlea plant is “progressing” with structural work and roofing complete while internal fit-outs are continuing.
GOOD FOR THE REGION: MP
MP for Maryborough John Barounis believes the recruitment drive will be a “game-changer” for the Fraser Coast.
“These aren’t just jobs – they’re real career pathways for locals, with apprenticeship opportunities for young people,” Barounis said.
“Locals will be among the first through the door when recruitment begins, exactly how it should be.”
