Queensland has unveiled new designs for two level crossing removals as part of the $5.75 billion Logan-Gold Coast Faster Rail Project.

The crossings (at Kuraby and Bethania) are among five to be removed in a 20km corridor stretching between Kuraby and Beenleigh.

The government says the crossing on Beenleigh Road at Kuraby will be replaced by a road-over-rail bridge with intersection upgrades.

At Bethania, government intends to elevate the station above Station Road and avoid another new road-over-rail bridge.

Government says public sessions in Kuraby and Bethania will start tomorrow (Saturday, September 13) when residents can have another say on the designs for both sites.

Updated designs for other stations along the project corridor will be released for public discussion later in the year.

Qld Transport Minister Brent Mickelberg says the release of the updated designs “is now a major step forward in this project” which will improve the traffic flow by removing five level crossings.

“We’re pleased to be presenting the updated designs to the community and look forward locals providing feedback so that we can begin work on removing the first two of five level crossings,” he says.

The release of the designs comes as new site investigations for the project began; drilling rigs, survey and noise-monitoring equipment will be used in the final design and construction planning.

LOGAN-GOLD COAST PROJECT

The $5.75bn Logan-Gold Coast Faster Rail project is jointly funded by the federal and state governments with a 50:50 split.

The project will boost the number of tracks from two to four in the Kuraby-Beenleigh corridor, remove level crossings, upgrade stations and improve walking and cycling connections.

The government says the designs have been refined following the award of the design and pre-construction contract for the major rail works package in March.

The date, time and location of each session for Kuraby and Bethania is available on the Department of Transport and Main Roads website.
