With a new round of claims open for Sydney’s $60 weekly toll road cap, motorists are taking full advantage by claiming an average rebate of $309.
The New Government says rebates can now be claimed for the final quarter of 2025; already, 35,000 claims were filed for the two weeks of 2026 compared to 15,700 for all of December.
Total rebates paid to drivers in Sydney’s west and north-west totalled an average of $3 million per suburb including Blacktown ($3.6m), Baulkham Hills ($3.4m), Auburn ($3.2m) and Merrylands ($3m).
Marsden Park ($2.8m), Castle Hill ($2.7m), Quakers Hill ($2.3m), Lakemba ($2.2m) and Kellyville ($2.1m) followed closely behind with 30 other suburbs receiving more than $1m in claims.
The suburbs with the highest average claims per driver were Lakemba ($644), Auburn ($634), Wiley Park ($560), Fairfield East ($539) and Cheltenham ($528).
Since the $60 cap was introduced two years ago, more than $215 million was paid back to NSW motorists at an average payout of $309, the government says.
TOLL CAP RELIEF
NSW Transport Minister John Graham says the jump in claims “shows just how much Sydney drivers need the toll cap” and why it was important the toll relief was made permanent.
“For drivers who need to take motorways and have no other choice but to clock up the tolls, we’re putting a cap on it so they can balance the family budget and not be penalised for where they live,” he says.
Customer Service Minister Jihad Dib says rebates can be claimed for every quarter of your toll spend from last year.
“If you’re regularly travelling on toll roads, I encourage you to visit the Service NSW website to make a claim,” he says.
“This time of year can be especially challenging as holiday spending adds up, so this is your chance to claim the new round of rebates waiting to be returned to you.
“With the average claim amount being more than $300, it could be a welcome boost to your household budget and a great way to start 2026.”
Some limits apply: there is a fair-use limit of $400 per tag/licence plate and a $5000 annual limit.
