A Darwin man will reappear in Darwin Local Court next month after a raid by Northern Territory Major Fraud Squad officers also uncovered warheads, grenades and ammunition.

The raid carried out on two properties on Old Bynoe Rd, Livingstone, last month was part of NT Police’s Operation Cheyenne.

The operation was set up in December 2025 to investigate claims that the man had stolen $1.33 million in property plant, equipment and building materials from August 2021 to June 2025 to improve his properties, police say.

On Wednesday, April 1, Fraud Squad, Financial Crimes and other officers raided the two separate properties on Old Bynoe Rd.

Police say their searches recovered around $123,000 worth of what they believe is stolen plant and equipment.

DARWIN MUNITIONS FOUND

They also discovered 32 military munition that are considered dangerous for public possession such as World War II ammunition, hand grenades, rocket components and warheads.

These items were subsequently transferred to a military team for safe storage, police say.

The 52-year-old male was arrested and charged with seven counts of fraud and of theft by Territory police.

The Australian Federal Police also charged him with stealing from federal facilities and storing the weapons haul.

He appeared at Darwin Local Court on April 2 and was bailed to appear in court on June 20, police said.

Major Fraud Squad Detective Sergeant Nicholas George says that “fraud is reported by the Australian Institute of Criminology as costing Australians more than $5 billion per year”.

“The resolution of this operation involved collaboration with federal partners.

“Through continued co-operation we will investigate, prosecute, and disrupt anyone who commits fraud in the Northern Territory.”
