Nowhere in Gaza is safe as 700 Palestinian civilians were killed by Israel within 24 hours. This is one of the highest death tolls since Israel’s most recent assaults on Gaza began on the 7th of October.
A confirmed 15,500 Palestinians have now been killed in Gaza, with other journalists in Gaza reporting a much higher number of well over 20,000.
Half of those killed are children, and thousands more people are missing and buried under the rubble.
One of the areas recently targeted by Israeli forces is the Jabalia Refugee Camp, which has now been attacked for the second time, killing dozens of people.
From the North to the South, across the entire Gaza strip, Gazans are saying that nowhere is safe for them.
Mahmoud Basal, a Palestinian Civil Defence spokesperson told Al Jazeera that the conditions in Gaza are “beyond dire” and warned that rescuers lack the resources to reach all those injured and in need of help.
“There are dozens of civilians being killed in every single air strike. Hundreds are also being wounded,” Basal said.
This new wave of unprecedented civilian death comes just four days after the truce between Hamas and Israel ended on Friday last week.
The four day truce began on the 24th of November and was extended by two days, but even during the truce there were reports of Palestinians, including children, being shot and killed in the West Bank.
Just minutes after the truce ended, Israeli forces went back to heavily bombarding Gaza.
