The footy posts are returning to Anzac Oval in Alice Springs – but feature the singular cap ‘H’ design of rugby (both codes) posts.
Territory construction company BluePrint (NT) helping to restore Anzac Oval as the town’s facilities are targeted for restoration.
The work they have done on the oval includes ground levelling, grass repairs, irrigation and laying turf and is mostly complete.
The oval is now being monitored ahead of the start of the season at the end of February while the installation of an electronic scoreboard is under way.
Repairs to the clubhouse facility have involved re-establishing removed services such as security and lighting controllers, graffiti removal, repairs to damage and painting.
These will happen during the season, the government says.
Chief Minister Lia Finocchiaro says they are keeping a promise to restore Anzac Oval as symbolised by the 17m-tall goal posts.
OTHER PROJECTS
The work on Anzac Oval is just one of several projects that is being funded under an NT infrastructure plan that focuses on the sporting, community and tourism sectors, the government says.
The MP for Namatjira and also Minister for Logistics and Infrastructure, Bill Yan says that the projects are fundamental to improving social and economic prospects in Alice Springs.
Other projects that are under way include allocating funding for free pool access, which resulted in a 40 per cent increase in attendees, and the construction of a new $1.8 million skate park.
A construction contract for the park is due to be awarded soon, the government says.
“The CLP is kicking goals with our revised plan and new location which will save Anzac Oval and deliver the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art Gallery of Australia (ATSIAGA) with an exhibition floor space of 1250 square metres…,” says Yan.
