An early-season snowstorm and snowmaking has allayed fears of a delayed start to the 2025 season for NSW and Victorian ski fields.
The new season is set to start at the Perisher, Falls Creek and Hotham resorts tomorrow (June 7) with operators reporting that up to 80cm of fresh snow was expected to fall over the long weekend and snow guns firing around the clock.
“We’re thrilled to welcome guests back to Perisher after Mother Nature brought some snow and colder temperatures in the past week.
“We look forward to watching guests discover, or re-discover, their moment,” says Nathan Butterworth, general manager of the Perisher Ski Resort.
“Our team worked incredibly hard to bring the mountain to life for opening weekend, and we’re so proud of what we’ve achieved,” says Richard Phillips, the general manager of Falls Creek Ski Lifts.
“Our teams have worked through night and day to get our resort ready, and we couldn’t be happier that Mother Nature has given us the best opening season present this year,” says Tina Burford, the general manager of Mount Hotham Skiing.
RESORT SUMMARIES
Perisher (NSW): After 72 hours of snowmaking up to today, continual freezing temperatures and snowfall, Perisher is offering skiing and boarding for the King’s Birthday long weekend as well as the PEAK music festival. The Mt Perisher 6 chairlift is due to open.
Falls Creek (Victoria): On opening day (tomorrow), the chairlift rides on Halley’s Comet will run to the newly refurbished Cloud 9 restaurant as staff closely monitor the forecast, ready to open lifts as soon as it’s safe! Retail stores are re-opening, alpine dining returns and Saturday night will feature a fireworks display in the Village Bowl.
Hotham (Victoria): The snow guns have been firing since May 18. First-timers and children will be able to take their first turns on the snow thanks to the newly relocated pup’s beginner carpet running (behind Hotham Central). More snowfall and ideal snowmaking conditions are forecast, the operators say.
