A ‘staycation’ can be defined as a leisure break that is spent within a day’s trip of home.

And Cumberland City Council is now teaming up with the Go Drivin app to offer self-guided ‘staycation’ trips across Western Sydney.

Cumberland Mayor Ola Hamed predicts that the app will help uncover the area’s hidden historical landmarks that may not even be familiar to locals.

“This initiative offers a fresh, flexible way for people to explore Cumberland,” she says.

“Whether it’s a hidden landmark, a leafy park, or a local eatery, it’s an invitation to connect with our community and appreciate the beauty around us.”

Go Drivin founder Winston Reinboth is enthusiastic about the project.

He says they can lead locals and tourists alike to places they may not have known about.

“Go Drivin is all about discovery, and Cumberland has so many stories and places worth uncovering,” he says.

“These self-guided drives are more than just a road trip,” he says.

“By blending storytelling with exploration, we’re giving locals and visitors a fresh way to experience Western Sydney while shining a spotlight on the hidden gems and vibrant character that defines Cumberland.”

CUMBERLAND SITES FOR APP

The platform’s website says there are five steps to using the app: select ‘Menu’, select ‘Adventures’, select ‘State’, select ‘Region’ and select ‘Drive’.

A free account is needed, and council says the app is only available on Android – for the moment.

An Apple app will be available soon, it says.

The platform will offer the curated self-guided trips through suburbs like Holroyd, Merrylands, Guildford, Greystanes, Pemulwuy, Granville Auburn and Lidcombe.

Some of the historic, cultural and religious attractions include an aqueduct (Greystanes), brickworks (Holyrod), cemetery (Rookwood), homestead (Guildford), a Russian Orthodox church (Lidcombe), mosque (Auburn) and botanic gardens (Auburn).

The self-guided driving routes are available at www.godrivin.com.au or on council’s website at https://www.cumberland.nsw.gov.au/go-drivin.
