A private LEGO collection worth $250,000 is going up for auction and turning heads locally and overseas with its rarity and scale.

Auctioneer Lloyds Auctions says the starting bid for all pieces and set is $1.

It says the collection took decades to build and involved more than 2000 LEGO sets (most long-retired) and over one million individual pieces, most of them still new and factory sealed.

“This is the largest single LEGO collection we’ve ever brought to auction,” says Lee Hames, the chief operations officer for Lloyds Auctions.

“The sheer scale is remarkable but what really sets it apart is the concentration of sealed, retired and highly sought‑after sets. You simply don’t see collections of this calibre come to market.”

The collection covers many collectable themes like Star Wars, Batman, Harry Potter, Marvel, Disney and Racers.

The auction house says many of the Star Wars sets are considered extremely rare as their values continue to rise globally.

Headlining the sale is an original Star Wars UCS Star Destroyer collectable that is expected to sell for tens of thousands of dollars.

Others like The Simpsons House, Kwik‑E‑Mart and Queen Anne’s Revenge pirate ship are highly prized by collectors worldwide and may sell for similar figures.

“With LEGO now firmly established as a serious collectable category, demand for quality retired sets has never been stronger,” Hames says.

“This collection delivers exactly what the global LEGO market is chasing.”

The auction house says the size of the collection is a rarity in itself for an unreserved public auction.

Bidding has already attracted strong interest from collectors across Australia and internationally.

The auctioneer will sell the collection in seven online auctions which will close daily, starting from April 20; every lot offered is completely unreserved. Bidding is live now.

Lloyds Auctions has operated in Australia for more than 20 years and runs a wide range of auctions for vehicles, machinery, fine art, jewellery, antiques and more.
