Greyhound racing in inner Sydney is to be farewelled with a rock concert at the final dogs race at Wentworth Park next month.
On October 16, Greyhound Racing NSW (GRNSW) says, Aussie band Screaming Jets will signal the end of racing at the Glebe-based park with a concert on the track.
“Greyhound racing has been conducted at Wentworth Park since 1932 so with 94 years of tradition and history, the final night was always going to be a very special, nostalgic night,” GRNSW Chief Executive Officer Steve Griffin says.
“… this truly will be the biggest night the sport has seen.
The concert will follow the finale of the $1 million Ladbrokes Million Dollar Chase.

“We have only been live for a couple of weeks but already tickets are being sold at a rate we have never previously experienced,” Griffin claims.
“We want to hang the ‘house full’ sign on the gates at Wenty on October 16 but we know there is, and will be, massive interest around the country in the final race meeting.”
He says TV and streaming, broadcast deals have been finalised with the Seven network and racing.com, calling the deals “a huge coup (and) what the night deserves”.
Sports Entertainment Network (SEN) chief executive Craig Hutchison says bringing the track’s closure to a national audience shows the significance of the occasion.
“This is far more than a race meeting. It’s the closing chapter of one of Australia’s great sporting venues and a moment that deserves to be shared with audiences across the country,” he says.
Greyhound racing in New Zealand has closed down at the start of the new financial year and Tasmania is pursuing voluntary exits.
