The pair tied the knot in Las Vegas over the weekend after rumours swirled yesterday that they had obtained a marriage licence.
Lopez made the announcement in her newsletter On the JLo, giving subscribers details of the intimate ceremony which happened on Saturday night.
“Stick around long enough and maybe you’ll find the best moment of your life in a drive through in Las Vegas at 12:30 in the morning in the tunnel of love drive through with your kids and the one you’ll spend forever with.”
She said that they stood in line for their marriage licence with four other couples and held the drive-through ceremony at the Little White Chapel.
“So with the best witnesses you could ever imagine, a dress from an old movie and a jacket from Ben’s closet, we read our own vows in the little chapel and gave one another the rings we’ll wear for the rest of our lives.”
“They were right when they said, ‘all you need is love’. We are so grateful to have that in abundance, a new wonderful family of five amazing children, and a life that we have never had more reason to look forward to.”
Lopez changed her name to Jennifer Lynn Affleck and said “Love is beautiful. Love is kind. And it turns out love is patient. Twenty years patient”.
The couple first got together in the early 2000s after meeting on the film Gigli and soon got engaged, creating a media storm that got them dubbed “Bennifer”.
Jennifer and Ben eventually called off the engagement citing the difficulties with high publicity and invasion of their lives with both moving on to have children and marriages with other people.
However, the pair rekindled their relationship and announced their second engagement back in April this year, 20 years after their first.
“I was taken totally off guard and just looked in his eyes smiling and crying at the same time trying hard to get my head around the fact that after 20 years this was happening all over again,” she said of their engagement.
