Oscars Winners: Everything Everywhere All At Once wins big at the 2023 Academy Awards

The 2023 Academy Awards are somewhat unique due to the wide range of Oscar nominations for more ‘pop culture’ movies, such as Top Gun: Maverick and Avatar: The Way of Water, along with critical darlings such as the Cate Blanchett led Tar.

The biggest news is Everything Everywhere All At Once’s sweep of the Oscars’ biggest categories, with Best Picture, Best Actress and both best supporting categories among the seven awards it won today.

Michelle Yeoh’s win as best actress makes her the first Asian woman to win the category. Yeoh had long been the favourite, however there was some uncertainty after Blanchett edged her out in the same category at the BAFTAs last month.

Brendan Fraser took out the Best Actor Oscar for his comeback roll in The Wale, beating out favourite Austin Butler for his portrayal of the titular Elvis.

The German film, All Quiet on the Western Front was also a heavy hitter at the awards, with the WWI epic going home with four Oscars.

Ruth E. Carter also made history a the 95th Oscars, becoming the first black woman to win two Oscars with her win for Best Costume Design for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,. During her speech, she gave tribute to her late mother and Chadwick Boseman, the lead in 2018’s Black Panther. She previously won the same Oscar in 2019 for the first Black Panther movie.
