The 2024 academy awards curtains have finally closed with the biggest win being granted to Oppenheimer, taking home 7 awards — nominated for 13 — including Best Picture and Best Director award.
Cillian Murphy won Best Actor award for Oppenheimer and Robert Downey Jr. took the Supporting Actor trophy for the same film — his first Oscar win after previously being nominated three times for Chaplin and Tropic Thunder.
Emily Blunt was also nominated for Best Supporting Actress in Oppenheimer, but ultimately lost to Da’vine Joy Randolph in The Holdovers.
Poor Things was another big winner, taking three awards, with Emma Stone winning Best Leading Actress for the second time, beating Lily Gladstone, the first Native American to be nominated for her role in Killers of the Flower Moon
The night took an unexpected turn as Barbie, one of the biggest hits and best films released in 2023, was awarded a single Oscar for Best Original Song — What was I made for by Billie Eilish — despite it being nominated for 7 other categories.
Even though Barbie did not win as many awards as forecasted, Ryan Gosling’s performance of ‘I’m just Ken’ stole the show for many viewers at the Oscars.
