Barbenheimer at the BAFTAs

Oppenheimer, one half of the Barbenheimer phenomenon, has swept the 2024 BAFTAs, winning 7 categories out of 13 nominations.

Irish actor Cillian Murphy received the award for Best Leading Actor, alongside his Oppenheimer cohorts Robert Downey Jr (Best Supporting Actor) and Christopher Nolan (Best Director).

Barbenheimer’s other half and 2023’s highest grossing movie, Barbie, was comparatively overshadowed.

Barbie was nominated for five categories, including Best Leading Actress for Australian Margot Robbie, but did not take any BAFTAs home.

Fellow Australian Jacob Elordi was also nominated Best Supporting Actor and Rising Star for his role in Saltburn.
