Mackay station will receive the largest number of new officers after a 79-strong class graduated from the Qld Police Academy in Brisbane last week.

Mackay is to receive four officers, the largest deployment for any single station; the city’s northern beaches station getting an officer as well.

The Brisbane region get the most graduates with 25 officers (north and south) with 12 for the South-Western Region (which takes in Gold Coast and Logan) and 10 for the Far North (taking in Cairns and Port Douglas).

The Qld Police Services says the graduation is the first of 12 planned for this year after almost 1200 officers were sworn in last year.

Qld Police Commissioner Steve Gollschewski was on hand to congratulate the new officers.

“Our newest constables will have a career that makes a positive difference to the lives of others,” he says.

Gold Coast volunteer surf lifesaver Constable Sophie Christie says she felt going from the boat to the beat was an obvious move.

STATION POSTINGS

She says she wanted to help others in a career with even greater meaning.

“Policing ticked all of those boxes for me, I just can’t wait to get out there and make a difference in people’s lives.”

Constable Christie will be deployed to South Brisbane into the area where she grew up.

For meritorious award recipient Constable Noah Langley, he says a move into policing suited him.

“I could see the tangible impact that policing had on vulnerable members of the community; coming from a chaplaincy background that valued strong communication skills, empathy and service to others, maybe I could do that too,” he says.

“I was drawn to a diverse career that could offer variety and where no two days were the same.”

Constable Langley will be deployed to Tully station in the Far Northern Region, between Townsville and Innisfail.

“The lifelong friendships I have made with recruits and facilitators is something I will never forget,” he says.

“As I embark on a new chapter in Tully, I know I can always look back with appreciation at what we achieved here together.”
