NSW Police stations in central and western Sydney will receive the largest number of probationary constables from today’s graduation at Goulburn Police Academy.
The 341 recruits who graduated will be deployed to 57 police area commands and districts, and on Monday they will start 12 months of on-the-job training.
The Central Metropolitan Region (inner Sydney) will get 77 constables while the North West Region (western Sydney) will get 74 constables.
Other deployments will see 65 constables go to Northern Region, 65 to South West Metropolitan Region, 30 to Southern and 30 to Western regions.
Police Minister Yasmin Catley says the size of the class (a third record for 2025) is proof that government reforms to rebuild the force are working.
“We are paying recruits to train, offering pathways to serve in or near their regional hometown after attesting and backing them every step of the way.”
The graduating class includes 50 officers from regional communities who chose to serve in or near their hometown under the Be A Cop In Your Hometown program.
NSW Police Force Commissioner Mal Lanyon says “reaching the milestone of 1000 students attesting this year is an achievement”.
“Recruitment at this scale means we can meet the needs of a growing state (and) boost our frontline services …”
The government says the recruitment boost is due to a pay rise in November 2024 which attracted 1255 new recruits, more than double the number from the previous 12-month period.
