Iraq is alleging that Türkiye is to blame for an attack on a tourist resort which saw eight civilians killed and 23 wounded.
The Government of Iraq has condemned the incident, calling on Türkiye to take responsibility and withdraw their forces from northern Iraq which saw eight people including a one-year-old killed.
Prime Minister, Commander-in-Chief Mustafa Al-Kadhimi called an emergency security meeting with the national council determining that they would submit an application of all Turkish led attacks to the UN.
Furthermore, they have called upon the Iraqi Charge d’Affairs from Ankara to consult on the incident and are demanding that Türkiye give a formal apology.
A report will be conducted by the Joint Operations Command with the government advising them to “take all necessary steps for self-defence” while also calling for international intervention.
“Recently, the Kurdistan Region has been subjected to repeated targeting from inside and outside Iraq, causing civilian casualties and material damage to their property.
“The federal government and the international community must exert their efforts in a more effective manner to prevent the recurrence of such violations.”
The Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs responded to the incident, offering condolences to the victims, and stated that they’re “ready to take all steps to reveal the truth” and urged the Iraqi government not to jump to conclusions on who is responsible.
“We invite Iraqi government officials not to make statements under the influence of the rhetoric and propaganda of the treacherous terrorist organization and to cooperate in bringing the real perpetrators of this tragic incident into light.”
Turkish officials also said that their efforts to combat terrorism is done within international laws and added that Türkiye is against any attack that targets civilians.
The UK Foreign Office has “deplored” the attack saying they will continue to support Iraq with the investigation and hostility in the Kurdistan region.
