Singer Joe Jonas (34) has filed for divorce from actress Sophie Turner (27) after just over four years of marriage, signalling the end of the celebrity couple’s relationship.
Public records obtained from Miami Dade County indicate that Jonas filed a petition for divorce on September 5, in which he cites that their marriage is “irretrievably broken.”
This confirmation follows rumours reported by TMZ and widespread speculation of the couple’s impending breakup.
The couple began dating in 2016 and became engaged a year later, and would be wed in a secretive Las Vegas ceremony in 2019.
While neither celebrity nor their representative has commented on the divorce so far, Jonas is reported to have deleted almost all photos featuring Turner from his instagram page.
He is also reported to have enlisted celebrity lawyer Tom Sasser to represent him in the divorce.
Sasser is best known for representing US golfer Tiger Woods during his divorce proceedings.
The divorce filing also indicates that the two have a prenuptial agreement, and that Jonas is seeking shared custody of the couple’s two young daughters.
Jonas will retain all royalties from his musical career as part of DNCE and the Jonas Brothers, while Turner will keep earnings from her acting career, including her eight-season role in Game of Thrones.
According to TMZ, an inside source claimed that the couple had been having trouble for at least six months, and said that the pair’s “different lifestyles” were a factor in the divorce.
“She likes to party, he likes to stay at home,” said the source.
Last year, Turner spoke to ELLE UK about her desire to return to the U.K., saying that living apart from her friends and family was challenging for her mental health.
“I miss England so much,” said Turner.
“The people, the attitude, everything. I’m slowly dragging my husband back. I really love living in America but, for my mental health, I have to be around my friends and my family. And also for my daughter–I would love her to get the education and school life that I was so lucky to have. England would ideally be the final destination, but [Joe] might take quite a bit of convincing!”
It’s possible the actress’s desire to return to the U.K. is a contributing factor to the divorce, but at this stage, nothing has been confirmed by either party.
