US president Joe Biden has said he’s glad the midterms have not been a heavy defeat by the Republicans, saying Tuesday was a good day for America.
It was heavily predicted by media that Republicans would win both the Senate and House of Representatives but with majority of the voting having been completed, Biden has said he was always confident it wouldn’t be as bad as people thought.
“While the press and pundits are predicting a giant red wave, it didn’t happen,” he said.
“I know you were somewhat miffed by my obsessing optimism, but I felt good during the whole process.”
Currently the US Senate is up for grabs from either the Republicans or Democrats.
Democrats are sitting at 48 seats and Republicans at 49 with three more seats too close to call at this present stage. Whichever party reaches 50 seats or over will have control over the senate.
Biden mentioned that this years’ midterms have proven to be historic as democrats usually lose many seats in the House of Representatives during the President’s first midterm election.
The House of Representatives is looking like it will be a Republican majority with only another nine seats needed to reach 218 with democrats sitting at 191 seats.
In a tweet, The President thanked the American voters for making their “voices heard”.
“I want to thank the young people of this nation who voted in historic numbers-again-just as you did 2 years ago,” he said.
“You voted to continue addressing the climate crisis, gun violence, your personal rights and freedoms and student debt relief.”

Joe Biden confirmed that he has plans to run again in the 2024 elections but his rival Donald Trump is also expected to announce his run sometime in the coming week.
Trump commented on the election results so far, saying that it’s not what he expected but still positive.
“While in certain ways yesterday’s election was somewhat disappointing, from my personal standpoint it was a very big victory – 219 WINS and 16 Losses,” he said.
“Who has ever done better than that?”
