Passengers were forced to evacuate a cruise ship docked in Sydney Harbour after a fire broke out on the ship.
The ship, which was docked at White Bay, after smoke was seen coming out of a window.
600 passengers were evacuated.
The fire impacted a gust’s stateroom and is currently suspected to have been caused by an electrical device.
Viking Cruises, the owner of the vessel, issued a statement where they said the fire is not likely to impact the continued schedule of the ship.
“We can confirm that a small fire occurred in a guest stateroom on board the Viking Orion while the ship was docked in Sydney the morning of February 3.” A spokesperson said.
“The fire was extinguishing within minutes by the ship’s crew, and there were no injuries.
“Viking is fully investigating the incident, and early reports indicate the cause of the fire was electrical, possibly from a corded device.
“All scheduled operations on board the Viking Orion have continued, and we do not expect any disruption to the current voyage.” They said.
New South Wales Fire and Rescue were on scene at approximately 8.10am, and the fire was extinguished at approximately 8.40am.
NSW Fire and Rescue said in a statement that levels five and six were evacuated as a precaution.
Other passengers were allowed to carry on with their planned activities.
“The fire started in an accommodation cabin on Level 5 of the ship.” NSW Fire and Rescue said.
“FRNSW have assisted the ship’s crew to contain the fire with complete extinguishment.
“This stopped the fire spreading to adjoining cabins.
“As a precaution levels five and six of the ship have been evacuated with the remainder of the ship maintaining its normal operations.
“Passengers have been allowed to disembark to carry on with their daily activities.” They said.
Two passengers were assessed by paramedics.
They were not taken to hospital.
