A father in the United Kingdom has become convinced his daughter’s doll is “possessed”, in a story reported by The Sun that is akin the 80s horror movie Child’s Play, in which a doll named Chucky becomes possessed by a serial killer.
Christian Hawksworth (48) says that his five-year-old daughter, Violet, warned him that the doll — lovingly named ‘Normand’ — doesn’t like him.
Since the day his daughter’s doll was purchased at an antiques fair for just £3 ($5.77), Hawksworth’s life has been riddled with bad luck, including his appendix exploding, his car bakes failing, being shot in the stomach, and having his salary reduced by a third.
The string of seemingly coincidental incidents has left Hawksworth convinced the doll is behind all of his recent bad luck.
Hawksworth was alerted of Normand’s opinion of him last October, when Violet warned him, “Normand doesn’t like you, Daddy.”
The next day, his appendix ruptured.
It resulted in a near-fatal infection requiring him to stay in intensive care for a week.
On returning home from his hospital stay, Hawksworth, who works as a construction recruiter, was notified that his pay was to be cut by a third.
Later, during an argument with his daughter, Hawksworth threw the doll across the floor.
The next day, as he was driving up a hill, his car brakes failed.
“I start hurtling down at 40mph and manage to steer and handbrake into the side of the road to avoid killing me and other people,” he said.
“The car was written off with catastrophic engine failure.”
The day after that incident, Hawksworth was walking through a park when he was shot in the stomach by an air rifle by an unknown assailant.
The attack drew blood, and police were unable to identify the culprit.
Later, during Christmas, Hawksworth’s healthy 88-year-old mother swung Normand around, ignoring Violet’s warnings.
A few days later, his mother was rushed to hospital, suffering from heavy nosebleeds.
Hawksworth is certain that Normand is possessed, having read about the occult while he studied at university.
He has attempted unsuccessfully to convince Violet to give the doll up, and believes things are only fine when it is “treated well”.
“I’m terrified of it,” he says.
“What has it witnessed?”
