Donald Trump has announced he will officially run as a candidate for President in 2024, saying he will “fight like no one has ever fought before”.
The former president made the announcement in the ballroom of his Mar-a-Lago country club to a room full of supporters, including Australia’s richest person Gina Rhinehart.
His 63-minute speech touched on several issues he would tackle if re-elected with the 76-year-old saying, “America’s comeback starts right now”.
“This will not be my campaign. This will be our campaign because the only force strong enough to defeat the massive corruption we are up against is you, the American people, the greatest people on Earth,” he said.
“Two years ago, we were a great nation. The decline of America is being forced on us.”

He said that he would defeat Joe Biden in 2024 and that “America’s golden age is just ahead”.
Trump said he would fix the high cost of living while he criticized migrants and American cities that he said are infected with crime and are “cesspools of blood”.
In opinion polls by the Pew Research Center, 60 per cent of Republicans said they had warm feelings for Trump, however that number has dropped seven per cent since last year and 19 per cent since 2020.
The polls say that younger Republicans view him less favourably but that 54.1 per cent of Americans, regardless of their political opinion, view him unfavourably.
While the billionaire made his announcement, the race has been officially declared by The Associated Press with the Republicans claiming the 218 seats needed to gain control of the House of Representatives.
However the US Senate is most likely going to stay under the control of the Democrats with 50 -49 seats officially declared.
Joe Biden has addressed Trump’s plan to run in 2024 with a video on social media that described how the country was negatively fairing during his Presidency from 2016 to 2020.
