Sydney Airport experienced a power outage on Friday morning that shut down computers and security screening.
Customers at the major Australian airport were left “stuck in the queue” of check-in and security at the domestic terminal.
Passengers took to social media to express their frustration with the airport.
“Clown show currently in progress… time for it to be taken back into public hands,” a X user wrote.
A spokesperson for Sydney Airport said that the power was quickly restored.
“Earlier this morning there was a brief power outage that temporarily affected some check-in and security processes,” they said.
“Power was quickly restored and there have been no knock-on impacts to airport operations or flight departures.”
However, it is believed that many people missed their flights as they were unable to reach their departure gate.
“Computers stop working, security screening stations not working, lights dropping out… and yet flights are still closing and leaving despite some very distressed people in the lines!” a passenger wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
Another claimed that their Virgin flight to Brisbane left without them and that “not everyone was so lucky” to get rebooked that day.
Virgin Australia said they are aware of the power outage and apologised for the disruption to customers.
“We regret the inconvenience this has caused our passengers and we are working hard to recover any guests impacted by the airport outage,” they said.
The cause of the power outage is unclear.
